Message from Chair of Governors
11th March 2019
As we reach the middle of the consultation period for this school to convert to an academy, we thought that you might find it useful to have an update about where we are up to. Information about the consultation has been sent out to all parents of children attending this school, to all local schools and to other stakeholders in our community.
On Friday 8th March, Mrs Jaques led a short presentation to parents which gave further information about the Governing Body's decision to convert to an academy and also set out the many, many things that would stay the same. Governors were pleased to hear questions from parents at this event as the questions and their answers will help to shape our decision making. These questions and answers have been uploaded to the school's website if you would like to see them. Governors were also very encouraged by the positive response from parents who attended this event.
Also on Friday 8th March, Governors had a very positive meeting with Priti Patel, MP. She stated that she is very pleased with the mutual benefits that there will be between ourselves and NEMAT. She expressed her support for our school, like all good schools, to have a choice about which, if any, multi-academy trust to join. She also spent a long time talking about the need for a variety of different multi-academy trusts in a locality, giving parents choice.
As a Governing Body, we are keen to continue hear your views about our proposals. If you have any comments that you would like us to consider as part of this consultation, please send an e-mail to email@example.com by Friday 15th March 2019. Alternatively, you can always speak to Mrs Jaques and she will pass on your comments to us.
Mrs G. Ford
Chair of Governors
Consultation meeting for parents
On 8th March 2019, a consultation meeting was held for parents. The short presentation given at the meeting is available below as well as a copy of a document showing the questions raised at the meeting along with the answers given.
Information sent to all parents of children attending Powers Hall Infant School on 01/03/19
The Governing Body of this school is currently consulting with parents and with the wider community on the proposal for this school to convert to an academy and to join NEMAT (North Essex Multi-Academy Trust) from 01 September 2019. This is a small multi-academy trust (MAT) currently comprising Notley High School, The Ramsey Academy and Richard de Clare Primary School.
You will be aware that education is continually changing and that there is a Government drive for all schools to become academies as part of multi-academy trusts. Governors believe that Powers Hall Infant School is in a strong position to make an informed choice to convert to academy status and to join NEMAT, in order to ensure the very best outcomes for your children.
Governors have explored many different options in their research into the multi-academy trust that is going to be the best fit for our school. Visits have taken place and Governors have attended presentations from several other multi-academy trusts. This has been a thoroughly rigorous process and has enabled Governors to see the benefits to this school of joining NEMAT at this time. Powers Hall Infant School never stands still and we are always seeking out the best opportunities to enable us to provide the highest standard of education to your children.
The consultation period will run from 1st to 15th March 2019. On 8th March at 2.30 p.m., we will hold a short presentation on the benefits we see for our school and you will also be able to ask questions at this time. We have also produced a leaflet (below) that outlines the many reasons why Governors have decided to consider conversion to an academy which should address many of the questions that you have.
Governors are keen to hear your views either by attending our consultation event or via e-mail to:
Following this period of consultation and a due diligence process, the Governing Body will decide whether or not to convert to an academy and you will be informed of the decision as soon as possible.
